Frequently Asked Questions

Can a dump truck reach my driveway, and what if it can't?
Standard dump trucks need about 12 feet of width and 13-14 feet of overhead clearance, and a firm surface. Wet grass and soft sand will rut or get the truck stuck. Low-hanging power lines, tight gates, soft septic drain fields, and steep slopes are the most common blockers. If access is tight, curbside drop will take place at the closest accessible point. Feel free to contact us about any access concerns when you order.
Is recycled concrete safe, is there rebar or sharp metal in it?
Reputable recycling plants run crushed concrete through a magnetic separator before it ships, which removes the large majority of rebar and embedded wire. You may occasionally find a small wire fragment or inert chip in a load, that's nearly unavoidable when processing demolition debris, however bulk metal is removed.
What happens if I order the wrong amount of aggregate, too much or too little?
If you order short, you can place a second order on the next available delivery day. If you over-order by a few tons, the extra compacts into the base and usually disappears once the driveway settles. If you're unsure of the right amount, use the calculator on the product page or call us before you order.
Do you deliver aggregate to my area in Florida?
We deliver bulk aggregate by dump truck across most of Florida, including Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Orlando, Lakeland, Clearwater, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Port St. Lucie, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, and Miami. Will #57 stone wash out in a heavy Florida rainstorm?
On a flat or gently sloped driveway, properly installed #57 stone holds up to Florida downpours. The angular shape interlocks and the open voids let rain drain straight down. Where it migrates is on slopes over about 5%, at the apron where it meets pavement, and around downspout discharge points. To keep it in place: install 4 inches deep over a compacted fines base, add a geotextile fabric underneath, and use edge containment such as paver edging or a concrete ribbon.
How many tons of aggregate do I need per square foot for a driveway?
At 4-inch compacted depth, 1 ton of aggregate covers roughly 50 sq ft (45 for recycled concrete fines, 50-60 for #57 stone). At 2-inch depth, 1 ton covers roughly 100 sq ft. A 500 sq ft pad at 4 inches needs about 10 tons; a 1,000 sq ft driveway needs about 20 tons. Always add a 10% buffer for compaction, edges, and waste. Use the on-page calculator for an exact number tied to your specific material.
What's the best aggregate for a French drain?
Clean, washed #57 stone is the standard French drain aggregate. It has large void spaces and no fines to clog the perforated pipe. Limerock 57 and recycled concrete 57 both work; recycled costs less, limerock is more uniform. Avoid any aggregate with fines (like crushed concrete fines or asphalt millings) for drainage applications, fines pack tight and clog the drain pipe over time.
What's the difference between asphalt millings and crushed concrete for a driveway?
Millings are recycled asphalt, chunks of old road surface with residual bitumen still in them. Compacted under sun and traffic, that binder reactivates and the surface hardens toward something like real asphalt, giving a darker semi-paved look that resists rutting. Crushed concrete fines compact tight to a stable base but stay loose, making them better suited under pavers or as a sub-layer before a finish material. Millings give you the finish surface; concrete fines give you the base.
What is #57 limerock stone?
Limerock 57 stone is crushed limestone sized roughly 1/2 inch to 1 inch. The pieces are angular with no fines, which makes it free-draining. Water moves straight through instead of pooling. Commonly used for driveways, French drains, and as a base layer under pavers or slabs. One ton covers roughly 100 square feet at 2 inches deep.
What are recycled asphalt millings?
Recycled asphalt millings are pieces of old asphalt road that have been ground up and reused. The mix is sized roughly 3/8 inch to 1 inch and still contains residual bitumen, the sticky tar from the original road. Once spread and driven on, sun and traffic gradually harden the surface into a semi-solid, paved-feeling finish. Used for driveways, parking pads, and rural lanes where you want a paved feel without the cost of fresh asphalt.
Where exactly does the dump truck unload my aggregate?
The driver dumps the load in a single pile at the most accessible point on your property, typically the end of your driveway or a flat area near the street. The material is dumped, not spread. Before delivery day, clear an open area free of vehicles, low-hanging branches, and overhead wires. Someone must be available on site to receive the delivery.
How many cubic yards are in a ton of crushed concrete?
Aggregate weight varies by material. Recycled concrete runs about 1.2–1.4 tons per cubic yard, limerock 57 stone is closer to 1.35–1.4, and asphalt millings weigh 1.4–1.6 tons per cubic yard because the residual bitumen adds mass. So a ton of recycled concrete equals roughly 0.71–0.83 cubic yards, while a ton of asphalt millings is closer to 0.63–0.71. Use the calculator on each product page for a material-specific estimate.
